MESSAGE from Nicholas Taylor
The artist Jean-Michel Basquiat was a living creative phenomenon who would pass through my life and become a very good friend. I am grateful for the wonderful times we shared together. His intelligence was beyond genius and every moment with Jean was precious.
He told me an idea. He wanted to be the most respected artist in the world during his lifetime. But the pressure of becoming the most acclaimed artist weighed heavy in his conscious. The innocence in his heart conflicted with his growing fame. He would self destruct with intoxicants, which gave him energy to paint and also helped him escape from the cruel world. We talked about death and the afterlife, and he told me he would be reincarnated.
