Liner Notes ::
Dedication is always presuming a special relationship between the "sender” and the "addressed”
persons. Often, it is a kind of "master and slave” connection which can be defined with such words
as honor, respect, and responsibility.
My first encounter with Bernhard Günter’s music was back in 1997. Two of his excellent pieces,
namely "Details Agrandis” and later "Impossible Grey” have changed my entire idea of what I call
music and musicality. Thanks to these radical masterpieces of monochrome heaven, my listening
activity has turned into a new state of mind where sounds do not distract the listener’s attention
from music; rather, every sound event, and movement carries the same importance and evidence
in the composition.
In his own album titles, Bernhard Günter has often dedicated his work to others (for Morton
Feldman, Mark Rothko, Jim O’Rourke) as a kind gesture. Thus, I decided to dedicated "Three
Shaded Leaves” to Bernhard himself as a kind of expression of my highest appreciation to this
great artist and musician.

Ákos Garai
started as a drummer at age of 13. After several years of playing with various bands
my music orientation has turned into new directions.
He started composing experimental music by discovering fields of electro-acoustic, abstract, minimal sound art in 2001.
Since 2004 in my main focus are moving micro structures of recorded, edited or processed sound material.
In 2009, I have established 3LEAVES, a record label devoted to release field recordings from all over the world and to present them based on individual concepts for listeners.

Japanese musician and composer Yu Miyashita has created a new album especially
for the Tokyo label mAtter.
Each track is named instinctively and then playfully reworked as a random anagram.
All relate to the seven years Miyashita spent in Brighton.
The title to the album and lead track, Navy See Res, is a sound reminder of the starlings
which can be found circling the Brighton shoreline in droves.
Miyashita’s methodology incorporates the use of software cyan/n.
When extending the short samples to create drone sounds he uses Renoise.
Returning to his collection of thousands of one second sound samples,
which he built up during the seven years, Miyashita has selected from them in order
to create his expansive collages of sound and huge soundscapes which are
intense powerful and, at times, mind blowing.

Yu Miyashita
Born 1984 Yamanashi Japan. Lives Japan / Brighton United Kingdom.
Much of Yu’s compositions are based on the Glitch and Onkyo branches
of Noise which grew up in the late 1990′s.
Glitch is constructed from digital debris,
errors and the processing (often the misuse, reissue or abuse)
of normally extraneous sounds, instruments and machinery.
Glitch musicians will record bugs, crashes, system errors, hardware noise,
skipping and audio distortion on their computers.
Onkyo is based on free improvisation and also appeared during the late 1990′s.
This type of music is more textural than structural, cutting together elements of
electronic music and even silence.
Yu Miyashita gathers bits of noise intuitively and assembles them into his Onkyo / Glitch / Noise hybrids.

Geomancy is a new dvd+cd collection of works about place and displacement, location and identity, and with the environment (or the "field" of field recordings) as a complex envelope of forces and meanings which light and sound can both trace and transform.
The CD contains a new long-form sound work, "Untitled (geomancy)". The piece was created from field recordings that were subject to a series of material and digital transformations: the original recordings were cut to a series of acetate phonograph records for an installation work in 2008, and these well-worn records, revealing a new landscape of their own in both sound and texture, became the basis for the composition.
The DVD collects four of Graydon's super 8 films on video. "Farwanderer", a story of finding identity in displacement, is the keystone work, revealing themes that are central to much of Graydon's film work. "Surroundings" evokes a restless sense of place more directly in images and music. "Focal Plane" is based on a live image and sound performance piece, and deals with the coming to life of an environment from the most fundamental elements of light, shape, motion -- and how these are always something less and something more than they seem. "Untitled (Aina)" is a visual field recording of sorts, showing environments on the islands of Hawaii where natural and human processes are set in friction or resonance, and accompanied by sound from the original acetate records used to create the "Untitled (geomancy)" sound composition

Andy Graydon
Andy Graydon (b. 1971, Maui, Hawaii) is an artist and filmmaker based in Berlin.
His work focuses on the interaction of sound, image, and environment. In his recent work Andy is interested in creating what he calls "Science Fiction Ecologies" by engaging with the speculative and transformational qualities within an environment. Taking the form of videos, sound works, media objects and installations this work explores the boundary zones between performance and exhibition, presence and deferral, liveness and mediation.
Graydon has presented work nationally and internationally in programs such as Ausland, Berlin, the Worldwide Video Festival, Amsterdam, and the Portland Art Center, Oregon. Recent exhibitions and performances in New York City include work at The New Museum of Contemporary Art, LMAKprojects gallery, Diapason, Art In General, Participant Inc gallery, Galeria Galou, The Dumbo Arts Festival, Millennium Film Workshop, White Box gallery, and Tonic. In 2005/2006 he was the visiting artist at the Center for Computer Music, Brooklyn College, CUNY.
Recent sound releases are available on Non Visual Objects (Vienna), Winds Measure Recordings (Brooklyn), 12k/Term (New York), EKO (Paris), On;(do) Music (Miami), The NY Society for Acoustic Ecology, and forthcoming from White_Line Editions (UK). Collaborations include performances and recordings with John Hudak, Kato Hideki, Kenneth Kirschner, sawako, Amnon Wolman, David Grubbs, Ben Owen, Zach Layton, Andre Golcalves, Brendan Murray, mpld, and Richard Garet. He is the co-founder and curator of three media and performance series in New York City: Becoming, Sonogrammar, and the upcoming LMAKseries.

窓を通して、もしくは顕微鏡を通して風景を観る/聴くようなものです。音の風景のある要素が延ばされており、焦点がどんどん移っていくようなイメージです。遠くから、近くから聴こえる鐘、電車、虫、鳥や人間の声、飛行機などは、風によってフィルターされているように感じられます。また同時に、今現在聴こえている風景がデフォルメされ、その風景の基本構造が明らかにされているように聴こえます。それはエリック・サティの「ソクラテス」に対してのジョン・ケージの「チープ・イミテーション」のようなもので、欠くことの出来ない重要な部分のみによって構成されているように思えます。デリケートな音作り、広がって行く音色、環境音との絶妙なぶつけ合いによって、
聴く度に新しい体験のできる作品です。

濱崎幸友の音楽は、小さすぎず、大きすぎず、少なすぎず、多すぎず、速すぎず、遅すぎず、強すぎず、弱すぎず、あたかもそれが最初から、そこにそのままあったかのように聴こえる。
光あるところ必ず影があるように、不可視で不可避な何ものかを常に携えながら、それらすべてをひっくるめなければ現れない、ちりちりとした境界をつくりだす。それは音のコンポジションでもなく、耳のコンポジションでもなく、しかしコンポジションとしか呼び得ない、奇妙なシンメトリーを保っている。
そんなしなやかな中庸の強度は、何かを極めようとする、保守的な心からは生まれない。抽象的でありつづけることは、自由であることのように難しい。

The music created by YUKITOMO HAMASAKI includes a lot of worthy elements and features. His music is possible to put into context within the sounds that surround us,in a sense, it could be called selfless music, It's like a clear window. It's as if we're looking at or listening to a landscape through a window or a microscope. The elements of the sound landscape are expanded to an extent in which the focus is constantly shifting.I feel as if these sounds, such as both a distant and closer bell sound, the sound of a train, insects, birds , a human being's voice, and an aircraft, are filtered with winds. At the same time, the basic structure of it's soundscape gives me an explicit sense of a landscape which has been deformes.
I appear to be that it's composed of only the integral important parts and it's like " Cheap Imitation" by John Cage against ”Socrates" by Eric Satie.
The more you listen to it, the more you have new experiences, due to the fine clashes of his delicately crafted sounds, the diffusible tones and sound environments.

The music brought forth from YUKITOMO HAMASAKI is not too small, not too big, not too little, not too much, not too fast, not too slow, not too strong, not too weak.As if it sounded that way from scratch.As if where light is, there is also shadow, his music always has an invisible and unavoidable " something ", and brings forth a flickering border that could not appear without all of these elements.It's not a sound composition nor an ear composition, but if there is only one way to call it, then it's "composition" held up by some bizarre symmetry. Such an intensity of balance and suppleness couldn't have been created from a conservative spirit that is simply trying to master something.Keep being abstract, as well as keep being free, despite the difficulty.
